Hello families and friends,
Today we started by going to the Learning Commons. Please help your child to remember to bring these books back every 2 weeks. Then we went to the gym for some more caroling. After that we continued working on our animal riddles. I have black skin and clear fur, I'm the largest predator on land, my paws are as big as dinner plates, and one of my favourite foods is a seal. Who am I? Post your answer in the comments below. In the afternoon we worked on our Read to Someone and Read to Self skills. We also practiced "sitting like a frog", an breathing and patience-building exercise. After that we did our mental math warmup and played some new math games working on our adding, subtracting, making 10, and doubles. We ended the day practicing some scooter, throwing, and catching skills in gym, and doing some winter colouring.
This Friday is Pyjama Day, and our last day for this round of Friday Clubs. The students will be starting in a new club in January. Friday is also the last day of classes before the break.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started our day with writing about our weekend. Then we went to the gym and joined the school for some caroling! After that we practiced our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills. Then we finished our morning with a winter wordsearch. In the afternoon we started with our mental math and then looked at representing our work for subtraction problems. Then we did a guided drawing of a gingerbread man. In gym we worked on our scooter skills.
This Wednesday is Fun Lunch. This Friday is Pyjama Day, and also Friday Club Day.
As the weather is getting a bit warmer, the students will likely be going outside each day for recess. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather with a warm jacket, boots, mitts, and a hat.
This week is our last week of school before the winter break. School will resume on Monday, January 3rd.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started our day with our words of the week. They are "migrate", "today", "adapt", "holiday", and "hibernate" for all students. Then we continued work on our descriptive writing skills. We each picked a wild animal that is native to this area and that sticks around during the winter. Then we made a web of words and ideas to describe our animal. After that we practiced our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills. In the afternoon we worked on our representing skills in math, watched the p.m. kindergarten classes' dress rehearsal for their Christmas concert, and practiced our Christmas concert.
Tomorrow, we will be having our dress rehearsal and evening performance for our Christmas concert. The afternoon performance is at 1:00 p.m.; parents are welcome to come and watch (no tickets required). The evening performance is at 6:00 p.m.; students are asked to be at their classrooms for 5:45. There is no specific dress code, but please dress nicely for the concert. Don't forget to bring a canned food item or toy for admission!

Today we started with looking at the difference between domestic and wild. In the comments below, post an animal that could be both wild and domestic. Then we worked on the /l/ sound to go with the /r/ sound that we worked on yesterday. We also continued working on our Read to Someone and Read to Self skills, and went to the Learning Commons. In the afternoon we finished up our list of doubles facts and played some new math games. Then the students worked on their snowflake art that we started last week. Those that had finished got to try a more challenging fractal art piece.
There is no school on Friday for students.

The Fill a Sock, Fill a Need campaign provides a Christmas “stocking” of essential needs and small personal items to those in need.
We are asking each student to donate $5 (or more J) to help fill socks to be donated to the Drop In Centre. If possible, we would also ask students to donate a pair of new, warm, adult sized socks.
We strongly encourage students to earn their donation money by doing chores around the house - shoveling snow, taking out the garbage…etc.
Tomorrow will be the last day for collecting socks and money. Help us with this final stretch to reach our goal!

Today we started our day with the book "How Cold Was It?", and talked about "triple scoop words". These are more interesting and exciting ways to say our common words like "good", "big", and "hungry". In the comments below, post a "single scoop word" with a "triple scoop word" for it. Then we started some work on descriptive writing by coming up with "triple scoop words" to describe what a dog looks like, what it does, and how it acts. Then we continued practicing our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills. We ended our morning with our words of the week. They are "cold", "winter", "mittens", "tuque", "snow", and "boots". Can you make a sentence that uses all six words of the week? In the afternoon we started with our calendar work, then started looking at our doubles facts in math. We also learned a new math game, Doubles Go Fish. For this game, the students have to ask for the card that is the answer to their number sentence, or the number sentence that makes their answer. After that we watched a video on migration, and started a writing page explaining what migration is and showing three animals that migrate. We ended our day with our stick handling skills in gym and practicing our Christmas concert songs with Mrs. Redwood's and Mrs. Stols' classes.
Tickets for the Christmas concert went home today. There are two tickets for the evening show. The afternoon performance is open to all, space permitted. Parent Council is asking for a donation to the Food Bank by people attending the concerts.

Yesterday we read the story "Andrew's Loose Tooth" by Robert Munsch, and then worked on a retell using 'first', 'next', 'then', and 'last'. We worked on finishing it up today. Then we continued practicing our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills. We finished our morning yesterday with our words of the week. Our words for this week are "came", "for", "said", "weekend", and "at" for all students. This morning we finished by watching a video about hibernation. We talked about what we remember from last week and some of the animals that hibernate. Then we started writing some facts about hibernation. In the afternoon we have started by using our representation skills that we have learned in math to show how we can solve some addition problems. We used a number line, ten frames, and an array. We ended our day with gym and music.
Words for the songs for our Christmas concert went home last week. Please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca> if your child did not get a copy.
Scholastic Book orders are due back by this Friday, November 25th.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off with our lead-up to our Daily 5 work; we did one round of 20 minutes where the students got to choose if they wanted to work on writing or independent reading, and then another round of 20 minutes where they worked on the other choice. As we continue getting better at this we will start adding other choices for them to work on into the routine. This is also time where I get to work with individual students or small groups on reading skills. After that we worked on representing numbers using four of the different ways that we have looked at so far this year: arrays; ten frames; tally marks; and pictures. In the afternoon we started with our calendar work. Then we read the book "The Vowel Family" by Sally M. Walker, and did the /o/ sound for our word work. After that we watched a video about the seasons. What kind of weather do we get in the winter here in Calgary? Post your answers in the comments below. Then we tried doing another snowflake using our fractal art skills. This one was quite a challenge for them.
Scholastic Book Orders have gone home. They are due back by next Friday, November 25th.

Before we started we reviewed our rubric that we had created together as a group last week for what we should be looking for and working on in our writing. We will use this to start some goal setting work tomorrow. Then in math we practiced using the arrays that we learned about last week to represent different numbers. This is a quick and efficient way of using a hundred chart to show a number. After lunch we practiced our Read to Self skill. Then we did our words of the week. Our words of the week for this week are "as", "is", "can", and "so" for grade ones, and "happy", "funny", "pretty", and "many" for grade twos. Then we did another fractal art activity with our buddies in room 74. Today we did a tree. After that we went to gym and did our calendar.
All Fundscrip order forms are due back tomorrow.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off with re-looking at what our good Read to Someone looks and sounds like, and then practicing it. We made it for 12 minutes as a whole group. Then we practiced our Read to Self and went to the Learning Commons to take out new books. After that we spent some time looking at a new tool for our math, a 100-dot array. We looked at different things we can make and show on the array, and then practiced showing how we can make and represent numbers using them. In the afternoon we looked at some writing that we did yesterday and talked about what kinds of things we are looking for in good writing. Next week we will use this to start some goal setting for our writing. Then we had a surprise practice lockdown! The students did an excellent job with this. Then we continued working on the coding work that we started with Ms. Handelsman. After that we had gym and finished off our day with a couple Robert Munsch stories.
Tomorrow we will be having our Remembrance Day assembly. Students that are involved in Beavers, Cubs, Sparks, and Brownies are welcome to wear their uniforms tomorrow if they wish.

This morning we started with writer's workshop. We talked about what to do if you are not sure how to spell a word. Then we wrote about our weekend and did author's chair. We continued working on giving feedback using 1 compliment, 1 critique, and 1 question. Then we played a game where we practiced showing and reading body language. They had a lot of fun with this. We finished off our morning working on our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills.
In the afternoon we did our words of the week. They are "eat", "thank", "try", and "stop" for grade ones, and "walk", "call", "draw", and "start" for grade twos. After that we did some work with the hundred charts. First we played a game of Race to 100, then we worked on number recognition and using the hundred chart for counting. We finished off our day with gym.
Cranston School is joining with the Veterans Food Bank to collect non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations to purchase Co-op gift cards for veterans to use to purchase fresh produce and meats. We will be collecting donations until November 15th, so please send in what you can. If your child is in rooms 54, 55, or 82, and you are planning to attend our Remembrance Day celebration on November 10th, we ask that you bring a donation to support this cause. Our school goal is to fill all 4 boxes that were sent for the food drive, but we will always welcome more! If you are able to make a cash donation, even if it is only your spare change, we will have a jar in the office for students to add to. Thank you for all of your support!!!

Hello families and friends,
Today we started by continuing work on the mouse story strips that we started on Monday; the students were given six pictures of a mouse getting a Halloween pumpkin that they needed to cut out and put into the correct sequence, then write a story to go with the pictures. After that we had our first practice lockdown of the year. We did a great job with this; when administration opened the door they didn't even know we were there! Then we went on a walk down to the windmill, did a Fall scavenger hunt, and sketched a tree.
In the afternoon we worked on our first "nose sound", /m/. Ask your child why it is called a "nose sound". Then we looked at our temperature graphs that we made through September and October, and we worked on some questions that tested the students' ability to read the information on the graphs. Ask your child about this. We finished off our day with gym and music.
Cranston School is joining with the Veterans Food Bank to collect non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations to purchase Co-op gift cards for veterans to use to purchase fresh produce and meats. The students practiced doing some estimation and predictions, measuring, comparing, counting large numbers, and using their senses for writing. A few pictures from the groups working in our room can be found at the bottom of this post. In the afternoon, we worked on some Halloween themed art, math, and writing.

Then we watched a video on given criticism and feedback, and the students had an opportunity to share their work and practice giving feedback on the pictures that the students had drawn. We finished off our morning practicing our good Read to Self and Read to Someone. In the afternoon, we started by working on a visualization exercise. Why do we do these exercises and how do they help us? Post your answer in the comments below. Then we continued working on the math exercise that we had started yesterday. Today we had another spelling quiz of our word wall words. This is a great resource for the students to use when they are having trouble spelling words, and for being able to recognize their familiar words. After that we continued practicing with half of the group doing Read to Self, and half of the group doing Read to Someone. This is a great resource for the students to use when they are having trouble spelling words, and for being able to recognize their familiar words. After that we continued practicing with half of the group doing Read to Self, and half of the group doing Read to Someone. Hello families and friends,
Today we worked on the quiet and noisy /th/ sounds in our word work. The students needed to come up with words that started with these sounds and sort them into the quiet and noisy sounds. Then we continued work on our Halloween "walking" story that we began yesterday. We finished off our morning continuing practice on our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills with half of the group doing each and rotating. They have done a really good job with this so far!
In the afternoon, Ms. Handelsman came and joined us to introduce the class to coding! We went to code.org and worked on some basic skills there. A link can be found through the Cranston School website, in the Virtual Learning Commons. Then we continued working on our soccer skills in gym, and joined Mrs. McBride for music.
I have had some people say they are having difficulties with posting comments on the blog. I have played around with the settings and hoping that it works now. In the comments below, what was your favourite part of today, and why?

Hello families and friends,
Today we started with working on our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills. We picked cards and half of the group worked on Read to Self and half of the group worked on Read to Someone, then we switched. After that we worked on a couple calming exercises; the Hot Chocolate Trick, and using our senses to imagine our Happy Place. How do these exercises help us? Post your answer in the comments below. We finished off our morning by continuing work on our measurement activity that we started yesterday.
In the afternoon we worked on the /qu/ sound. A lot of students were having a hard time finding their materials, so we spent some time after cleaning up the room. We found lots of pencils and colours that had made their way into the wrong bins or under furniture! Then we worked on sorting our classroom library. The students really enjoyed this. After that we talked about "walking" and "climbing" stories. What is the difference between a "walking" and "climbing" story? In gym we worked on our soccer skills.
I hope to see you all tonight at the Family Math Night. There will be lots of math games to see and learn.

Today we started by working on our writing. We wrote about our weekends, and included one imaginary detail. Ask your child what they wrote about. Then we had an assembly! It was put on by the Earth Rangers. We saw lots of cool animals and learned a lot about taking care of the animals. Ask your child what they saw. In the afternoon we did our words of the week. Our words of the week for this week are "or", "an", "by", and "was" for grade ones, and "laugh", "they", "he", and "she" for grade twos. Then we practiced our math game Making 10 Go Fish. After that we did a fractal art activity with our buddies in room 74. What is a fractal? Post your answers in the comments below. In gym we worked on our soccer skills.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off with our "joke of the day". Tell me a Halloween themed joke! Post it in the comments below. Then we started working on our Read to Someone and Read to Self skills. The students have been making very good progress with these skills, and next week we are going to try something new with them. After that we had a spelling quiz! Some of the students noticed that they were all words from our word wall. This is a great resource for them to use for checking spelling when working on their writing. Here are all the words we have added so far:
After that we had our first day of Choice Math work. The students were given a variety of problems to work on to practice their math skills that we have learned including: representing numbers; addition and subtraction; and word problems using numbers up to 10. The problems are colour coded for the students to choose a good fit for where their skills are at; green is more basic; orange is a little more challenging; and red is intended as a challenge for any of the students. Ask your child what they worked on. Then we finished off our day with our first Peace Assembly of the year, led by room 51.

On Monday, October 31st, we are going to be doing a pumpkin investigation with our buddies in room 72. We will be looking for around 10 to 12 pumpkins of different shapes and sizes all together. We would like to have all of the pumpkins collected by the end of next Friday, October 28th.

Next Tuesday our Book Fair is opening. We will be going to check it out on Tuesday morning; students are able to purchase books at this time if they would like. The book fair will also be open during the Math Night on Wednesday.

We started our day with Read to Someone. We made it for 9 minutes. After that we worked on our Read to Self. Then we did our science kits. We did two stations today. Ask your child what they learned at their stations.
In the afternoon we started with calendar and worked on counting backwards by 1 from 20. Then in math we did a mental math warmup and then continued working on our pumpkin word problem from yesterday. After math we did the /s/ sound in word work. Then in gym we worked on the dribbling skill with groups.
Picture order forms are due back next Wednesday, October 26th. Halloween Howler order forms are due back Monday, October 24th.

We used our ideas to create a Venn diagram showing what our responsibilities look like at home and at school. After our snack we looked at some different stations exploring life in the grasslands.
In the afternoon we started with our words of the week. Our words of the week for this week are "go", "we", "in", and "no" for grade ones, and "please", "what", "all", and "out" for grade twos. Then we continued working on our Making 10 strategy in math with another word problem. We will continue this work tomorrow. After that we had some buddy time with Mrs. Boutilier's class doing some art. We finished off our day with phys. ed. and music.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started with working on our reading skills. Most of the students have been able to make it to 20 minutes, but as a whole group we are still sitting at 18 minutes of reading stamina. We are hoping to get there by the end of next week! After that we did a community building game. Ask your child about this. Then after our snack and body break we continued work on our pumpkin art that we began yesterday. We finished off the day by finishing up some of the work that we started during the week that students may not have had a chance to finish.
Home Reading books went home earlier this week. Please spend some time listening to your child read these books; for most of them it will be a book that they are able to read all (or almost all) of the words independently. It is also helpful to ask them questions about what they have read to make sure that they are remembering and understanding it. Once they have had an opportunity to practice reading through it a couple times then they can be brought back in the bag they were sent home in and switched out for a new one.
On Wednesday, October 26th, we will be having a Math night. Stay tuned for more details to come.
Our Halloween Howler will be on Thursday, October 27th. Tickets for these will be going home on Monday, and are due back by Monday, October 24th.

In the afternoon, we started with our last class of Inline Skating. Ask your child what they learned today. Then we did our words of the week. Our words for this week are "it", "of", "be", and "if" for grade ones, and "her", "friend", "your", and "his" for grade twos. The students needed to practice writing the word, then come up with two sentences (grade ones) or four sentences (grade twos) that use one or more of those words. Then the students continued work on finishing up their Important Thing About Me writing. We finished the day with music.

We started off our day today working on our Important Thing About Me writing. We practiced doing some editing. Ask your child what this means. Then we went down to the Learning Commons to switch out our books. We are allowed to have 2 books out at a time. The books need to be brought back after 2 weeks. After that we had a snack, then we did reading. We practiced our Read to Self skills first, and we almost made 15 minutes but we were interrupted by Picture Day. Ask your child about that. When we came back we continued our reading and practiced our Read to Someone skills.
After lunch we started doing some art for the upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving! We will be finishing this up tomorrow. What are some things that you are thankful for? Post you answers in the comments below. Then we did the /a/ sound in our word work. Why is this letter/sound special? "It is the first letter in the alphabet and also one of our vowel sounds (HC)". Then we did some Cosmic Kids Yoga in gym. Then we had a snack and did the blog at the end of the day.
No Inline Skating this week. Our next lesson is next Tuesday, October 11th. Don't forget your helmet and socks! Also, if you are able to volunteer to help out that day please email Mr. Soulliere at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca>.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off our day working on practicing our read to self skills and building our reading stamina. We got to 14 minutes today! Then we spent some time practicing our read to someone skills. After that, we did some "memory writing". The students got to pick any memory to write about. Ask your child what they chose. Then we had some time to share our work and to learn more about our classmates.
In the afternoon we started our new weather graph for October. It was a cold day today! Then we did our words of the week. For this week they are the numbers "one", "two", "three", "four", "five", "six", "seven", "eight", "nine", and "ten" for all students. Fitting with our story Jolly Olly Octopus, by Tony Mitton, the students had to come up with a picture showing ten different things for our ten different numbers (e.g. one octopus, two turtles, three sea horses, four lobsters, etc.), and then write about what they drew. This was quite a challenge for them! We finished off the day working on catching up on some of the work we have fallen behind on, then the students who finished were able to teach each other some math games.
This Wednesday, October 5th, is Picture Day.
I had put on the Scholastic Order Forms that they are due back next Monday, October 10th. As this coming weekend is a long weekend though (PD Day on Friday, Holiday on Monday), they will be due back by Tuesday, October 11th, instead.

After that we continued working on the fall tree art that we started on Wednesday. The students had their second Inline Skating class after that. Ask them what they learned today. We finished off our day working on catching up on some of the work that we have started throughout the week that they may not have had time to finish.
Mathletics login cards have gone home over the last couple days. All of the students should be set properly, but please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca> and let me know if they are not set for the proper grade. If the login card gets lost let me know and I can print a replacement copy. For privacy/security reasons however, I cannot email that information out.

All of the students should be set properly, but please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca> and let me know if they are not set for the proper grade. Hello families and friends,
We started off our day working on our Read to Self skills. We are at 12 minutes for our reading stamina as a class. After that we had an introduction to the Learning Commons with Ms. Aris, and we took out our first books! We can keep these books for up to 2 weeks. After that we had our snack and then we went on Go Noodle and did some energy/breathing exercises. We finished off our morning with some tree art. Ask your child about this.
This afternoon, we started with our calendar work and added to our weather graph. Then we talked about operations in math. Ask your child what an operation is. After math we went outside to run around the soccer field to warm ourselves up for our Terry Fox run. This is happening tomorrow at 1:30. Then we finished off our day working on our word work. Yesterday we had worked on our /k/ sound, and today we worked on its noisy partner. In the comments below, write a sentence that uses as many words with this sound as you can.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off our day by writing about our weekend...with a twist! Each student had to include one imaginary detail into their writing. Ask your child what they wrote. After that we talked about the Zones of Regulation; this is posted on our wall near the tent as a way for the students to help understand their emotions better and work towards getting into a good learning place. Then we did some deep breathing and visualizing exercises. We finished our morning by working on our Read to Self skills, and managed to increase our stamina to 11 minutes. Great job room 71!
In the afternoon we started by reading the book One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab, then worked on representing our numbers from 1 to 10. Then we went outside and played some blob tag for gym. Our day finished with our words of the week work. They are "me", "you", "on", "and", and "because" for all students. In the comments below, write a sentence that includes as many of the words of the week as you can!
This Thursday is our Terry Fox Run. All week we are doing Toonies for Terry; through to Friday September 30 we will be collecting money from students to put it in a large glass jug that will be placed in the office. Cranston's goal is to collect $1000.
This week our class will be having our Inline Skating lesson on Friday, September 30th, from 10:15 to 11:10. Thank you to those of you who have offered to come in and help out with this. Hello families and friends,
Today was Peace Day! What does peace mean to you? Post your answer in the comments below. We started off our day by doing some writing about this after reading the Peace Book by Todd Parr, so they should have lots of ideas! After that the students had some time to work on their pinwheels for Pinwheels for Peace. We went out at the end of the day as a whole school to let our pinwheels spin in the breeze and sing some of our favourite peace songs. Today was also our first fun lunch of the year.
In the afternoon we started off with our first Inline Skating lesson. The students had lots of fun! Ask your child what they learned today. Then we worked on our /d/ sound for word work before we went out with our pinwheels.
Tomorrow evening is our open house. The doors will open at 6:30, and will begin in the gym with some information and introductions from administration. Then parents will be allowed to go into the school to visit classrooms and teachers. This is a good time for learning about some of the routines in our class and some of the work we will be doing. If you have specific questions or concerns about your child's learning or needs however, please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca> and we can set up a separate time to meet that will allow for more privacy.
Scholastic book orders are due back by next Monday, September 26th.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off by talking about our "brain pockets" that we use for getting ideas for our writing, and put this into our writing folder. In the comments below, what are the three pockets? Give an example for one of them. After that we worked on building our reading stamina. As a group we have been able to go for 9 minutes of focused, sustained reading. Today we tried with some quiet music in the background, and we were able to go for 8 minutes. We finished off our morning by doing a group sorting activity in math, and practiced using the Bloggies to make videos explaining our work.
In the afternoon we had a substitute teacher, Ms. Curtis. Ms. Handelsman came and talked to our class about Digital Citizenship. Ask your child about this. Then we had a snack and did some reading with Mrs. Boutilier's class, one of our grade 1/2 buddy classes. We ended off our day with our words of the week. These are "I", "do", "the", and "my" for grade ones, and "brother", "sister", "mom", and "dad" for grade twos. The students practiced writing the words, and then worked on using them properly in sentences. Each week we will be adding new words to our word wall. This is a great resource for the students to use to help with their spelling during their writing time, and also for our word work games.
A reminder that we are going to be having our first Inline Skating class on Wednesday. Our other times are next Friday, September 30th, and Tuesday, October 11th.

I hope that you are all enjoying the lovely weather we are having this weekend! Just a few reminders for you for the week:
We will be having our first day of Inline Skating this Wednesday from 12:10 to 1:05. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to come in and assist us with this. If there are any other parents who would be available to help out please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca>. The students are asked to bring their own helmets and socks, and to wear comfortable clothing. Also, please ensure that your child's permission form for this activity has been returned before Wednesday.
Wednesday is also our first Fun Lunch of the year. Fun Lunch orders can be placed through the school website.
Scholastic Book Orders will be going home this week. When ordering books, payment can be made by cheque made out to Scholastic Canada, or by credit card at Scholastic Parent Pay. Please make sure that the order form at the back of the package is filled out completely and returned to myself.

Hello families and friends,
Today we started off with our calendar math, where we represent the date in as many ways as we can (today, the number 14). After that the students had an opportunity to share what they had done, and we started a list of all the different ways of representing that we came up with including using the number, pictures, a number line, addition, subtraction, tally marks, and a pattern. Ask your child which ways they used. Then we went outside to practice where our class will go in case of an emergency when we would need to evacuate the building, and took a walk around the field looking for signs that fall is coming. We saw leaves changing colours and falling off trees, and birds migrating.
In the afternoon we practiced our skip counting and added more to our temperature graph during our calendar work, then HT read our afternoon story to the rest of the class. The students also had some time to work on designing the front cover of their visual journals, and then we worked on the /b/ sound in our word work. Their challenge today was to write a sentence that used at least 3 words starting with the /b/ sound. After that we had our first fire drill of the year! We did an excellent job of making our way out the field quickly and safely. Then in gym we did some more work with the parachute. At the end of the day we handed out some sheets and then had a class discussion about Lola. What facts have you learned about Lola so far this year? Write your answer in the comments below.
Please remember to return any medical, fee payment, consent to post, and demographic forms as soon as possible with any corrections that need to be made. All consent forms for inline skating also need to be in before the end of the week. If you are able to volunteer to help out for any of the days that our class is participating in this, please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca>.

This morning we started our day off with a story, and then we wrote about what we did this weekend. Then we had a chance to share what we wrote about. After that we had an assembly. We learned about peace through a book that Ms. Tuli shared with us, the song Peace in My Fingers. And we also the Entertainment books. These are in our backpacks. If you are not going to be ordering one, make sure that all of the things in the bag come back to Mr. Soulliere.
In the afternoon we did some work with the calendar, and starting making a temperature graph. We will be doing this throughout the year so that we can see the changes that happen. Then we worked on the /p/ sound. In math we practiced representing numbers using snap cubes. Then in gym we played with the parachute.

Hello families and friends,
We had a wonderful first week of school. The students are starting to get back into the routine and have enjoyed learning more about our space and the others in it. Some of their favourite parts were playing on the park, meeting new friends, having a class pet, math, reading, and drawing. Today we practiced some skills that we worked on throughout this week including making patterns, independent reading, and writing.
On Fridays, as it is only a half day, the students will not need to have a full lunch with them. They will have some extra time for their snack, since our day ends a little after our normal lunch time, so including an extra item may be helpful to get them to the end of the day.
Thank you to those of you who have returned the student package that went home earlier this week. Please have those filled out and returned by the end of next week if possible. There will also be a form sent home on Monday for our Inline Skating unit that we will be doing in phys. ed. in the next month. These are due back on Wednesday, September 14th.

Hello families and friends,
We had a great first day of school today! We started our day by learning and talking about our class pet, Lola. Lola is a leopard gecko. Ask your child one thing they learned about Lola. Then we had a scavenger hunt, to find different things around the room. This let us know more about the things in our space. After that we had a body break outside and learned about our rules for this. We finished our morning by finding a buddy to learn more about and shared some of this with the rest of the class.
We learned about our lunchtime routine. We start by going outside for recess, then we come in to eat lunch in Mrs. Grummett's classroom with Mrs. K. We also did a Math About Me sheet. Ask your child some of the things they did. We also got our pencil cases and had some time to put the materials we wanted in them. Then we learned about how to get to the blog and worked together on it.
Some forms have gone home today: an informational Student Accident Insurance Plan; a Start Up Package; and a Student Demographic Verification Report. Please fill out and return the Start Up Package as soon as possible. For the demographic form, if there are any corrections to be made to your child's information that we have on file those can be made on the form and sent back. It would also be appreciated if all the information is correct for you to send it back with a check or something similar.
For the next few days we will be having our phys. ed. time outside. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, and is wearing shoes that will be safe and comfortable for them to be running in. Also, since it is that time of year that the temperature usually gets quite a bit warmer than it is in the morning, it would be helpful for any of your child's things to be labelled with their name or initials as many will inevitably make their way to the lost and found.
Update: Council is supplying snack on Thursday. It will be Chocolate Chip cookie with Cheese String and served at 10:00 am for students.
During our reading of the book Stuck, by Oliver Jeffers, we got talking about gravity, which led to us watching a video of the first moon landing to see how the gravity there makes walking different.
