Hello families and friends,

We have been continuing to work on our animal research with our buddies in Mrs. Sloane's class, and will be looking at finishing these up in the coming week.  We have also been working on illustrating and typing up our stories.  In math, we have been continuing to work on representing double-digit numbers, and strategies for adding and subtracting double-digit numbers.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the fish release yesterday!  It was a beautiful day, and the kids had a lot of fun.

Next week is Literacy Week, with different events each day, and each day themed around a different author.  Monday will be Robert Munsch day, and also Crazy Hair Day.  Your hair can be as crazy as you like!  On Thursday, we will be having a literacy night.  Teachers will be presenting games, similar to our math night earlier this year.  It will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Hello families and friends,

Today we took a visit to the Learning Commons to switch out our books.  After that we worked on using our mental math strategies to solve a bunch of addition and subtraction questions.  Then we continued work on our stories, doing the illustrations.  We have been starting to work on putting these stories onto the iPads using Pages.  Then we finished off our morning with some Read to Self.  In the afternoon, we continued working with our buddies on our animal research.  Most of the groups are finishing up putting their books together, and we will be putting the finishing touches on them next week.  After that we went to gym for some more drum fit.  We finished off our day with working on comparing the animals that we have been researching to leopard geckos.  In the comments below, post one thing that is different between your animal and a leopard gecko, or one thing that is the same (or similar).

A reminder that tomorrow is our trout release!  I hope to see you all there.

Hello families and friends,

We started off our day today with our words of the week.  They are "after", "sit", "want", and "wash" for grade ones, and "much", "him", "has", and "more" for grade twos.  After that we worked on our stories some more, and practiced our Read to Self and Read to Someone.  Then in math we practiced using expanded form.  Ask your child about this.  In the afternoon we worked with our buddies on finishing up our animal research.  Then we continued Drum Fit in gym.  After that we went outside to look at the growth that has happened on our trees outside, and measured how long our buds have grown.  Ask your child what they learned from this.  Then we spent the last part of our day looking at some tree clippings that Mr. Soulliere brought in from his house.  What did you notice about the branches and leaves?  Post in the comments below.

Thank you to those of you that have returned your field trip forms.  Please fill those out and have them returned by next Wednesday, May 31st.

Hello families and friends,

Today we started off with our words of the week.  They are "may", "own", "never", and "any" for grade ones, and "them", "first", "will", and "too" for grade twos.  In the comments below, post a sentence that includes at least four of the words of the week.  After that we had a special lesson with Ms. Jessica on being Social Detectives.  Ask your child about this.  Then we had our mental math warmup and worked on some word problems.  In the afternoon we continued working with our buddies on our animal research.  Some of the groups are getting close to finish up their books!  Then we went to drum fit with Mrs. Grummett and Ms. Collins' classes.  After that we started working on a booklet to see what we could remember about our work on Buoyancy and Boats last week.  We finished off our day working on an origami water lily.

Field trip forms for the zoo will be going home at some point this week.  Please have them filled out completely and returned by Monday, May 29th.  This Wednesday is Fun Lunch.  It is also a short week this week and next.  Friday is a PD day, and Monday is a holiday.

Friday, May 26th is our annual Trout Release!

Here is also an updated list of all of our words of the week that we have done this year.  Grade two students have been expected to know the grade one words as well.

Hello families and friends,

Yesterday we had a wonderful in-class field trip with Teachers' Pet, learning about Buoyancy and Boats.  Ask your child what they learned.  We have also been continuing work on our reading and writing skills, and working hard at our animal research with our buddies in Mrs. Sloane's class.  The students have also been learning how to do origami, and are really enjoying it!  So far we have made a dog, a jumping frog, two types of boats, and are working on a secret one now.  This morning we also had a special visit from one of the grade 4 classes at Dr. George Stanley.  They have been working on some stories about healthy living, and they wanted to share them with us.  Ask your child what their buddy's story was about and what they learned from it.  Afterwards we spent some time sharing our stories that we have been working on with them, and then did some buddy reading.

Hello families and friends,

Today was a nice quiet day for us.  We spent some time working on our Read to Self and Read to Someone skills.  Then we did some writing about a goal that we have for what we would like to do before the end of the year.  Ask your child what their goal is.  In gym we did a group run to the windmill.  As the weather is getting warmer we will likely be having more outdoor gym days.  Please make sure that your child is wearing proper footwear for running and doing activities outside.  At the end of the day we worked on our pictograph work with our partners.

Next Wednesday is our in-school field trip on Boats and Buoyancy.  I am still looking for one volunteer to help out with this.  Please email me at <gasoulliere@cbe.ab.ca> if you are able to make it.  They are asking for volunteers to arrive at around 12:45 to be briefed on what your duties will be, and it will go right to the end of the day.

Hello families and friends,

Happy Arbour Day!  Yesterday we worked hard on all of our art to get it finished up, and today was a day full of Arbour Day celebrations.  Our school's new tree has been planted out front near the bike racks.  I hope that you are all able to make it tonight to see it and all of the wonderful work that the students, in our class and throughout the school, have been doing around Arbour Day.  Doors open at 6:00.

Hello families and friends,

We had a great performance of our Music Monday assembly yesterday!  The students had worked really hard on all the songs and they sounded terrific.  Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to watch.  In the afternoon we started work on a tree mural that will be on display for Arbour Day on Thursday.  Today we continued working on this in the morning.  We also worked on our group pictographs that we had started up last week.  In the afternoon we worked with Ms. Ellison on another art project for Arbour Day.  Ask your child about this.  We will be continuing and finishing both of these art projects tomorrow.

Tomorrow is Hats on for Mental Health Day.  Students are encouraged to wear their hats.

Thursday is our Arbour Day celebration.  The students will have an opportunity to tour around the school during the day to see all of the work that the rest of the school has been working on.  In the evening, students are encouraged to come with their parents to show and share what they have created and seen.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
